Requirements

VS Code 1.112 or newer (engines.vscode is ^1.112.0)
Hytale Installed through the Hytale launcher. The extension needs the launcher's Assets.zip to draw vanilla blocks.
Other extensions None

The extension does not ship any Hytale assets. It reads Assets.zip in place and never extracts or copies it. Only the parts a prefab needs are read.

Installing

From the Marketplace

  1. Open the Prefab Renderer page on the VS Code Marketplace and click Install.
  2. Or open the Extensions view in VS Code (Ctrl+Shift+X), search for Prefab Renderer and click Install.
  3. Or open Quick Open (Ctrl+P) and run:
ext install MutigerAffe.hytale-prefab-viewer

The extension ID is MutigerAffe.hytale-prefab-viewer. The display name is Prefab Renderer.

From a .vsix file

If you have a .vsix file, install it with Extensions → ... → Install from VSIX... or on the command line:

code --install-extension prefab-viewer-1.0.0.vsix

Setting the path to Assets.zip

The default value of hytalePrefabViewer.assetsZip is the location used by the Flatpak version of the Hytale launcher on Linux:

~/.var/app/com.hypixel.HytaleLauncher/data/Hytale/install/release/package/game/latest/Assets.zip

If Hytale is installed somewhere else, for example on Windows or macOS, set the setting to the full path of your Assets.zip. Without it, vanilla blocks cannot be resolved and are drawn magenta. See Asset Sources and Commands and Settings.

Activation

The extension has no startup activation. VS Code loads it the first time you run its command or open a file in the 3D view.

Workspace Trust and remote setups

  • The extension works in untrusted workspaces. It only reads files and runs no code from the workspace.
  • In virtual workspaces support is limited. Asset folders are only detected and read on the local file system.

Uninstalling

Uninstall it in the Extensions view. The extension stores nothing in your workspace and does not change your prefab files.
