Utility Connect is a library mod for Hytale. It links blocks into networks and keeps track of them, live while you build and across server restarts. Other mods use it so they do not have to write their own pipe and cable logic. Better Storage is the first mod built on it.
Utility Connect adds no blocks, items, commands or settings of its own. On its own it does nothing you can see in the game. You only need it when another mod requires it.

Do I need it?
- Yes, if you play or host Better Storage or any other mod that lists Utility Connect as a dependency. The server will not start that mod without it.
- No, otherwise. Installing it alone is harmless, but it adds nothing.
What it does
- Turns neighbouring network blocks of other mods (for example storage units and pipes) into connected networks.
- Splits a network when a block in the middle is broken and joins networks when a gap is closed.
- Keeps networks across chunk loading and server restarts.
- Keeps networks of different worlds apart.
The details are on Networks and Persistence.
Utility Connect does not move items, fluids or energy by itself. The mod that adds the blocks decides what travels through its networks.
