The timer shows the total age of the world: how much game time has passed since the world was created.

Format

The text grows with the age of the world. It always shows minutes and seconds and adds hours and days once they are needed. Every number has at least two digits.

World age COLON (default) UNIT_SUFFIX
under one hour 22:36 22m 36s
from the first full hour 14:22:36 14h 22m 36s
from the first full day 02-14:22:36 02d 14h 22m 36s
  • In the COLON format the day is separated from the hours by a dash, everything else by colons.
  • Once a larger unit is shown, all smaller units stay visible, even when they are zero. 01-00:05:30 means one day, zero hours, five minutes and thirty seconds.
  • Seconds are rounded down. There is no limit on days: after 99 days the day count simply gets a third digit.
  • You pick the format with the timeFormat option on the Configuration page.

How the time is counted

The timer is based on the world's tick counter, not on a real-time clock.

  • Minecraft runs at 20 ticks per second, so 20 ticks count as one second, 72,000 ticks as one hour.
  • A day in the timer is 24 hours of game time (1,728,000 ticks), not a 20-minute Minecraft day.
  • If the game or server runs below 20 ticks per second (lag), the timer runs slower than a real clock.
  • The counter starts at zero when the world is created and is saved with the world. The mod itself stores nothing.
  • Changing the time of day with /time set or by sleeping does not change the timer. Those change the daytime, not the world's age.
  • The value is the same in every dimension. It does not reset when you go to the Nether or the End.

Singleplayer

The timer only counts while the world is running. It stops while the game is paused (for example in the pause menu) and of course while the world is closed. In singleplayer it is therefore close to the time you actually spent in that world.

If the world is opened to LAN, the game no longer pauses, so the timer keeps counting in the pause menu.

Multiplayer

On a server the timer shows the age of the server's world. It counts as long as the server runs, whether you are online or not, so it is not your personal playtime. The server sends the current value about once per second and your client counts along in between.

Where it is shown

By default the timer is centered horizontally just above the hotbar, high enough to clear the health and armor bars. You can move it to a corner or the top of the screen and shift it by a few pixels. See Position on the Configuration page.

Updates

The text is redrawn every frame together with the hotbar, so it always shows the current value. Changes made in the config screen take effect immediately.

When it is hidden

The timer is not shown when:

  • you turned it off with F6 (or hudEnabled is false)
  • the F3 debug screen is open, as long as hideWithDebugScreen is true (the default)
  • the HUD is hidden with F1, because the timer is drawn together with the hotbar
  • you are not in a world, for example in the main menu
