Chasms are long, narrow cuts that run straight through the ground of the Acid Grounds and open into the void below the world. Just above the abyss their walls glow in purple, green and yellow.

Shape

  • A chasm starts at the very bottom of the world and runs sideways in both directions from its starting point, bending slightly (up to 12° per step).
  • Each direction is up to about 88 blocks long. After the first 28 blocks every further 4-block step has a 4 % chance to end the chasm, so many are shorter. The last steps get narrower.
  • A chasm is 7 to 10 blocks wide and open from the void all the way up through the surface.
  • There is no floor. Whatever falls in falls out of the world.

Where they appear

  • Chasms only start inside Acid Grounds biomes, in all four of them. A long chasm can run on past the edge of a region.
  • They are not common: roughly one chance in every 250 × 250 blocks.

Glowing walls

  • In the lowest part of the world, from the bottom up to about height 16 to 22, the walls are made of glowrock 2 to 3 blocks thick.
  • The wall mix is Purple, Green and Yellow Glowrock in equal parts, plus about 3 % Adamantite Ore - Magma.
  • Glowrock only replaces Volcanic Rock and Ashen Soil. Other blocks stay as they are.
  • Above the glowing band the walls are plain rock and soil.

Mining the walls

The glowing band sits far below the surface, right above the void. Secure yourself before you climb down: build a platform or a staircase into the wall, and never stand on the edge of the opening.

See Glowrock for what to do with it.

No creatures spawn inside the chasms.
