Commands

Command Id Where What it does
Task Deck: Find Task… quickTasks.findTask View title (search icon), Command Palette Opens a search across all visible tasks and runs the selected one. See Find Task.
Refresh quickTasks.refresh View title (refresh icon), Command Palette Collects the task list again.
Open Settings quickTasks.manageSources View title (gear icon), Command Palette Opens the Settings editor filtered to the Task Deck settings (@ext:MutigerAffe.task-deck).
Task Deck: Show Hidden Source… quickTasks.showSource Command Palette Lets you pick a hidden source and shows it again.
Hide Source quickTasks.hideSource Source row (eye icon) Hides the source and its tasks. See Sources.
Remove Source Configuration quickTasks.forgetSource Right-click on a source shown as not found Deletes all stored settings of that source after a confirmation.
Pin Task quickTasks.pinTask Task row (pin icon) Adds the task to the Pinned group. See Pinned Tasks.
Unpin Task quickTasks.unpinTask Task row in the Pinned group (pin icon) Removes the task from the Pinned group.
Run Task quickTasks.runTask Click on a task Runs the task.
Task Deck: Task List Refreshing quickTasks.taskLoading Click on a task that shows loading… Shows a status bar message that the list is still being refreshed.

Hide Source, Remove Source Configuration and Run Task also appear in the Command Palette. They need a row in the view to work on, so started from the Command Palette they do not do anything useful. Pin Task, Unpin Task and Task Deck: Task List Refreshing are hidden from the Command Palette.

Refresh and Open Settings appear in the Command Palette without the Task Deck: prefix.

Keyboard shortcuts

Task Deck does not add keyboard shortcuts. You can assign your own to the commands above under File → Preferences → Keyboard Shortcuts.

Settings

All settings are objects with the source name as key, for example Workspace for tasks.json or npm. The default is always an empty object. A source without an entry uses the value in the column Without an entry. Details and an example are on Sources.

Setting Value per source Without an entry What it does
quickTasks.sourceEnabled true, false shown false hides the source and its tasks. Set by Hide Source and Show Hidden Source.
quickTasks.sourceIcons Codicon id folder Icon of the source group. The Settings editor offers 14 icons, any other Codicon id works in settings.json.
quickTasks.sourceColors Theme color id theme default Tints the source icon and its task icons. The Settings editor offers 12 colors, any other theme color id works in settings.json.
quickTasks.sourceInclude list of name patterns all tasks If not empty, only tasks that match one of the patterns are shown.
quickTasks.sourceExclude list of name patterns no task hidden Tasks that match one of the patterns are hidden, even if they match an include pattern.
quickTasks.sourceSaveToUser true, false false true makes Hide Source and Show Hidden Source save quickTasks.sourceEnabled for this source to the user settings instead of the workspace settings.
quickTasks.sources object with enabled, icon, color, include, exclude none Deprecated. Still read as a fallback for sources that have no entry in the new settings.

Name patterns use * for any number of characters and ? for one character. A pattern has to match the whole task name. Upper and lower case don't matter.

Suggested icons

folder, package, tools, checklist, gear, rocket, beaker, terminal, file-code, database, cloud, symbol-event, briefcase, combine

Suggested colors

charts.blue, charts.green, charts.orange, charts.red, charts.purple, charts.yellow, terminal.ansiBlue, terminal.ansiGreen, terminal.ansiRed, terminal.ansiYellow, terminal.ansiCyan, terminal.ansiMagenta

Stored data

Besides the settings, Task Deck stores two things for each workspace in the VS Code workspace storage:

  • the pinned tasks
  • the last task list, which is shown at once on the next start

Neither is written to settings.json.

File types

Task Deck adds no languages, file types or editors. It watches .vscode/tasks.json files in the workspace and refreshes the list when one of them changes.
