Pin the tasks you use most to keep them at the top of the view.

Pinning a task

Hover a task and click the pin icon (Pin Task). The task now also appears in the Pinned group at the top of the view. It stays in its own source group as well.

A task that still shows loading… can't be pinned yet. Wait until the task list is refreshed. See Task View.

The Pinned group

  • It is shown above all sources and starts expanded.
  • The number next to it is the number of pinned tasks it shows.
  • Pinned tasks have a yellow pin icon. Next to the name the group shows the source the task belongs to.
  • Click a pinned task to run it. The run state (running, exit code) is shown here too.
  • Pinned tasks stay in the group even if their source is hidden or a name filter hides them in their source group. See Sources.
  • If none of the pinned tasks is found any more, the group is not shown.

Unpinning a task

Hover the task in the Pinned group and click the pin icon (Unpin Task). The task stays in its source group.

Where pins are stored

Pins are stored for each workspace, so every project has its own pinned tasks. They are not part of your settings and are not shared through settings.json.

A task is recognized by its source, its name and its task type. If you rename a task, pin it again.
