BetterStorage:Getting Started
This page walks you through your first storage network: one Storage Core, one Storage Accessor, a Storage Unit and the pipes in between.

Before you start
- Install Utility Connect 1.0.0 next to Better Storage. Without it the server does not load the mod.
- You need a Workbench and a Furnace, some Iron Ingots, Copper Ingots, a Gold Ingot, Charcoal, Quartzite Cobble, Volcanic Cobble, sand and plenty of tree logs.
1. Build the benches
All three are crafted at the Workbench (Crafting category).
| Bench | Ingredients |
|---|---|
| Metal Press | 6 Iron Ingot, 2 Copper Ingot, 10 Any Tree Log |
| Glass Smelter | 4 Iron Ingot, 20 Cobblestone |
| Storage Assembler I | 4 Iron Plate, 2 Copper Wire, 25 Any Tree Log |
The Storage Assembler already needs Iron Plates and Copper Wire, so build the Metal Press first.
2. Make the basic materials
- Iron Plate: 1 Iron Ingot in the Metal Press.
- Copper Coil and Iron Coil: 1 ingot each at the Workbench.
- Copper Wire: 1 Copper Coil in the Metal Press gives 4 wire.
- Copper Plate and Copper Foil: Copper Ingot in the Metal Press gives a plate, a plate gives 2 foil.
- Gold Foil: Gold Ingot → Gold Plate → 2 Gold Foil, all in the Metal Press.
- Graphite: 4 Charcoal in the Metal Press.
- Glass: Quartzite Cobble → Quartz (Metal Press) → 8 Quartz Powder (Metal Press), then 1 Quartz Powder + 1 sand in the Glass Smelter.
- Sulfur and Sulfuric Acid: 8 Volcanic Cobble give 1 Sulfur in the Glass Smelter. 2 Sulfur and 1 Glass give 1 Sulfuric Acid.
All recipes are listed on Materials.
3. Craft the network parts
At the Storage Assembler:
| Part | Ingredients | Category |
|---|---|---|
| Circuit Board | 1 Iron Plate, 2 Copper Foil, 1 Sulfuric Acid | Components |
| Resistor (×2) | 1 Graphite, 1 Copper Wire | Components |
| Processor | 1 Circuit Board, 1 Gold Foil, 2 Resistor | Components |
| Memory Module I | 1 Iron Coil, 4 Copper Wire | Components |
| Storage Core | 1 Processor, 1 Memory Module I, 6 Iron Plate | Storage System |
| Storage Accessor | 1 Circuit Board, 2 Glass, 2 Copper Wire, 2 Iron Plate | Storage System |
| Storage Unit | 4 Iron Plate, 4 Any Tree Log, 1 Copper Wire | Storage System |
| Connection Pipe (×8) | 3 Copper Flat Plate, 1 Iron Coil, 2 Glass | Storage System |
Copper Flat Plates come from the Furnace: 3 Copper Plates make one.
4. Place and connect
- Place the Storage Core, the Storage Accessor and one or more Storage Units.
- Join them with Connection Pipes. Blocks only connect through pipes: a Storage Unit right next to the core is not connected until a pipe touches both.
- Place only one Storage Core per network. With none or with two, the network does not work.
See Storage Network for the rules.
5. Use the terminal
Use the Storage Accessor to open the terminal.
- Click Store inventory to move everything from your inventory into the network. Your hotbar and armor stay where they are.
- Click an item in the network to take a stack, right-click to take half a stack.
- Click a Workbench in your inventory panel to put it into the Storage Core. Its recipes now show up in the crafting column and use the materials stored in the network. See Crafting from the Network.
Next steps
- More room: a Storage Drive with Storage Cells holds far more than Storage Units.
- Status at a glance: a Storage Observer.
- Far away from home: a Loading Mechanism keeps the network loaded.
- Bigger cells need an upgraded Storage Assembler and the ores of the Devastated Lands.
