BetterStorage:Crafting from the Network
The terminal can craft with the materials stored anywhere in the network. You do not need to carry the ingredients or move them between chests first. Which recipes are available depends on the benches you put into the Storage Core.
Which recipes are available
- Without any bench, the terminal crafts the recipes you can make by hand (the recipes that need no bench).
- Each bench in the Storage Core adds its recipes. A Workbench in the core unlocks the Workbench recipes, a Storage Assembler unlocks the storage parts, and so on.
- Benches from other mods work the same way. The terminal reads from each recipe which bench it needs.
- Recipes that need a higher bench tier work once the bench in the core has that tier. See Upgrading benches.
- Recipes that must be learned are only craftable after you have learned them, just like at a real bench. Their tooltip says "Recipe not learned yet".
Ingredients come only from the network, never from your inventory. A recipe is craftable when all ingredients are stored in the network. Ingredients like "Any Tree Log" are matched like at a normal bench.
Benches in the Storage Core
The Storage Core has 40 bench slots. They appear in the Benches column of the terminal. At least ten slots are shown, and one more empty slot appears each time you fill the last one.
- Put a bench in: click it in the inventory panel of the terminal. It goes into the first free bench slot. Each kind of bench fits only once; a second one is stored in the network instead.
- Take a bench out: click it in the Benches column. It goes back into your inventory. The other benches move up, so there are no gaps.
- Tooltip: hover over a bench to see its tier and what the next tier costs, with have/need for each material.
Processing benches such as the Furnace, the Metal Press and the Glass Smelter can go into the core as well and unlock their recipes in the terminal.
Upgrading benches
Below each bench in the Benches column is an arrow button.
- The arrow is green when the network holds all materials for the next tier. Click it to upgrade. The materials are taken from the network.
- The arrow is grey when something is missing. The bench's tooltip shows what.
- Max replaces the arrow when the bench is fully upgraded.
The chat confirms an upgrade with "Upgraded Workbench to tier 2."
The upgrade cost of each tier is the same as at the placed bench.
Vanilla benches
A vanilla bench upgraded in the core keeps its tier only while it stays there. When you take it out, it goes back to tier 1 and its upgrade materials go back into the network, the same way a placed vanilla bench gives back its materials when you break it. If the network has no room, the materials go into your inventory, and if that is full too, they drop at your feet. Nothing is lost.
If your inventory has no room for the bench, it stays in the core and keeps its tier.
If the Storage Core is broken, upgraded vanilla benches drop at tier 1 and their materials drop next to the core.
Storage Assembler
The Storage Assembler is different: each tier is its own item. Upgrading it in the core turns it into Storage Assembler II, III or IV, and it stays at that tier when you take it out. The materials are used up.
Crafting
- Select a recipe in the crafting area.
- Check the details on the right: each ingredient is listed as have/need, followed by the bench it needs. Missing ingredients, a missing bench ("not in the Storage Core") or a bench with too low a tier ("upgrade it") are shown in red.
- Click Craft, Craft x10 or Craft all.
- The crafted items go into your inventory.
- Craft x10 appears only when the network has enough for ten crafts. Craft all appears when more than one craft is possible.
- Craft all never makes more than fits into your inventory.
- The chat confirms with "Crafted 10x Iron Plate." If the ingredients were used up in the meantime, it says "Could not craft that. The ingredients may have just been used up."
Recipe tooltips
| Tooltip | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Craftable from the network | Everything is there. |
| Missing ingredients | The bench is there, but some ingredients are not. |
| Needs a bench in the Storage Core | The required bench, or the required tier, is missing. |
| Recipe not learned yet | You have not learned this recipe. |
Upgrading Storage Cells
Upgrading a Storage Cell in the terminal takes the old cell from the network's storage, and the new cell keeps its contents. The old cell has to be stored in the network as an item; a cell inside a drive is not used.
Limits
- Recipes that require special bench add-ons (augments) cannot be crafted from the terminal, because a bench in the core carries no add-ons.
- Only materials in loaded chunks count. Use a Loading Mechanism for networks that reach far.
