BetterStorage:Terminal

The terminal is the window that opens when you use a Storage Accessor. It shows everything stored in the network, your own inventory, the benches in the Storage Core and the recipes you can craft from the network, all at once.

The terminal: Benches and Loader on the left, the network's items and the recipes in the middle, the recipe details on the right, your inventory below. This screenshot is from an earlier version; the crafting header now reads "Crafting" and has a "Show" button.

Layout

Area What it does
Benches (left) The bench slots of the Storage Core. See Crafting from the Network.
Loader (left) The slot for the Loading Mechanism and how many chunks it keeps loaded.
Storage Network (middle, top) Everything stored in the network.
Crafting (middle) Recipes you can make from the network's materials.
Recipe details (right) Ingredients of the selected recipe and the craft buttons.
Inventory (bottom) Your backpack, inventory and hotbar, with your armor on the left.

Network items

Every item type in the network is shown once, with the total amount from all Storage Units and Storage Cells. The tooltip shows the amount, for example "2.5K in the network".

  • Search: type into the search field to filter by item name.
  • Sort: the Sort button switches between Amount and Name. The default is Amount.
  • Order: the Desc / Asc button flips the direction. The default is Desc, largest amounts first.
  • Pages: 100 item types fit on one page. With more, < and > buttons and a page label appear.

Taking items out:

Click Result
Left-click an item Takes one full stack into your inventory.
Right-click an item Takes half a stack.
Right-click a piece of armor Puts it on. Whatever you wore in that slot goes into the network, or into your inventory if the network is full.

You never get more than fits into your inventory. If your inventory is full, the terminal says "No room in your inventory."

Storing items

Action Result
Store inventory button Stores everything from your backpack and inventory. Your hotbar and your armor are not touched.
Left-click a slot in your inventory or hotbar Stores that whole stack.
Right-click a slot in your inventory or hotbar Stores half of the stack, rounded up.
Click a worn armor piece Takes it off and stores it.

Two items are handled differently when you click them in the inventory panel:

  • A crafting bench goes into a free bench slot of the Storage Core, if that kind of bench is not there yet.
  • A Loading Mechanism goes into the Storage Core's loader slot, if it is empty.

Otherwise they are stored like any other item. The tooltip of each slot tells you what a click will do.

Messages you may see:

  • "Stored 120 items." / "Stored 80 items, 40 did not fit."
  • "The network is full.": the containers have no free slot left.
  • "No stack space left in the network. Add Storage Cells to a Storage Drive or build more Storage Units."
  • "Nothing in your inventory to store."

Crafting

The crafting area lists recipes whose ingredients come from the network. Crafted items go into your inventory.

  • Without a search term, only recipes you can craft right now are shown.
  • The Show: Craftable / All button switches to all recipes. Recipes you cannot craft yet are greyed out.
  • Typing into the crafting search field also shows recipes you cannot craft, greyed out.
  • Click a recipe to select it. The details on the right list each ingredient with have/need and the bench it needs. Anything missing is shown in red.
  • Craft makes one, Craft x10 makes ten, Craft all makes as many as the network's materials and your inventory space allow. A button only appears when it can do something.

The full rules, including which benches and recipes are available, are on Crafting from the Network.

Notices

Instead of the item list, the terminal may show:

The network is empty. Nothing is stored yet.

Over capacity - nothing new is accepted. More stacks are stored than the network has room for.
