Stat Lens is a regular VS Code extension. It needs no other extensions.

Requirements

Stat Lens VS Code
4.0.0 1.100 or newer (^1.100.0)
  • A folder on the local file system. The extension does not run in virtual workspaces, for example a repository opened directly from GitHub in the browser.
  • A trusted workspace. The extension runs git in the workspace and reads all files, so it is disabled in Restricted Mode. Trust the folder with Manage Workspace Trust to use it.
  • Git (optional). The Git figures need the git program in the PATH. Without it, everything else still works and the view shows git is not installed or not in PATH.

Installing

From the Marketplace

  1. Open the Extensions view in VS Code (Ctrl+Shift+X).
  2. Search for Stat Lens by MutigerAffe.
  3. Click Install.

You can also open Stat Lens on the VS Code Marketplace and install it from there.

From the command line or Quick Open

Press Ctrl+P and enter:

ext install MutigerAffe.stat-lens

Or install it from a terminal with the VS Code command line tool:

code --install-extension MutigerAffe.stat-lens

First start

The extension starts shortly after VS Code has finished loading. Open the Explorer. The Stat Lens view appears as its own section there. The first scan of a folder starts on its own, see Scanning.

If no folder is open, the view shows No workspace folder open.

Updating from an earlier version

Version 4.0.0 is published under the extension id MutigerAffe.stat-lens. Earlier versions were published under the name Project Stats with a different id. VS Code treats them as separate extensions, so an old version is not replaced. Uninstall it by hand.

Uninstalling

Uninstall the extension in the Extensions view. Stat Lens writes nothing into your project folder. It only keeps the last scan result in the VS Code workspace storage and small color icons for the languages in its own global storage folder.
