Block Factory is a single jar file that you add to Hytale, either to your own game for singleplayer or to a dedicated server. It is not an add-on for normal worlds: it replaces large parts of the base game and brings its own world generator. This page covers what you need, how to install it, what changes compared with vanilla Hytale, and how to update safely.

Requirements

What Details
Hytale Server version 0.7.x (the mod declares itself compatible with 0.7.0 up to, but not including, 0.8.0)
Mod version 0.2.0 (Early Access)
Other mods None. Everything the mod uses ships with Hytale.
File BlockFactory-<version>.jar. The jar contains code, models, sounds and music. Do not unpack it.

Singleplayer

  1. Copy the jar into the UserData/Mods/ folder of your Hytale installation.
  2. Restart the Hytale client.
  3. Create a new world. Before you create it, open Mods in the world settings and tick BlockFactory.
  4. Start the world. You wake up in a cryo capsule in the bunker; see Getting Started.

Dedicated server

  1. Stop the server.
  2. Copy the jar into the server's mods/ folder.
  3. If you want to change world generation (ore fields, nest density, peaceful mode, multiplayer rules), set it up before the first start. Generator values only affect chunks generated afterwards, and the first start already generates the area around the spawn. See World Settings.
  4. Start the server.

With the mod installed, the Block Factory generator becomes the default for every new world. Existing worlds keep the generator stored in their own configuration. The mod's rules (no vanilla recipes, no vanilla spawns, no digging) apply to every world on the server, so give Block Factory its own server or install folder.

Players joining a Block Factory server do not install the mod themselves; the server sends its content to their client.

Why you need a new world

Block Factory has its own world generator. It builds the flat steppe, the ore fields, the bunker at the spawn, the ruin of the Portal of the Ancient and the dark Great Portal. A world created without the mod has none of this, and its terrain does not fit the rules of the mod. Existing worlds are not converted. See The World.

What changes compared with vanilla Hytale

Block Factory is a factory game in the style of Factorio, not a sandbox. Many vanilla features are switched off.

Topic Vanilla Hytale Block Factory
Breaking blocks Everything Only trees and rocks (always the whole object, no tool needed) and your own factory parts. Soil, stone, sand and water stay as they are.
Placing blocks Everything Only Block Factory parts: machines, belts, pipes, walls, floors and so on.
Explosions Damage blocks Do not damage world blocks. Only TNT blasts mountain walls.
Ore Mined with a pickaxe, deposits run out Infinite ore fields on the surface, mined by drills or slowly by hand
Crafting Vanilla recipes and benches All vanilla recipes are removed. Only the Factory tab of pocket crafting and Block Factory machines remain.
Creatures Natural spawns Vanilla NPC spawning is off. Only Block Factory animals, enemies and helpers appear.
Fall damage Yes No
Stamina Sprinting costs stamina Stamina refills at once; the stamina and mana bars are hidden
Health Vanilla rules Regenerates 2 % per second after 5 seconds without damage
Death Items drop Your whole inventory goes into a Death Chest; see Death and Respawn
Music Vanilla soundtrack Block Factory's own music, which changes with your epoch

What you can change in the world:

  • Trees and rocks: hold left click to remove the whole object. See Gathering and Crafting.
  • Factory parts: place them and pick them back up. See Controls and Building.
  • Floors replace the grass under your factory, and Landfill turns water into ground.
  • Mountain walls give way to TNT, which comes late in the game.

Progress comes from building production lines and doing Research through five epochs, not from exploring dungeons or finding loot.

Updating

Block Factory is in active development. A new version can generate or save worlds differently. When that happens, a world from an older version refuses to start and the server log names the reason. You can then:

  • keep playing that world with the old version of the mod, or
  • start a new world with the new version.

There is no automatic conversion. Before every update:

  1. Stop the server or close the world.
  2. Copy the whole world folder somewhere safe.
  3. Replace the old jar with the new one. Do not keep both jars in the folder.
  4. Start and check the server log.

Never edit LayoutVersion or CreatedWith in the world's configuration. The mod writes them itself; they make sure old chunks still match the generator's rules. Changing the resource settings of an existing world later is ignored for the same reason (with a warning in the log). Details: World Settings.

Removing the mod

Remove the jar from the Mods/ or mods/ folder (in singleplayer you can also untick it in the world settings). Worlds created with Block Factory are built for the mod and are not meant to be played without it.
