BlockFactory:Great Portal

The Great Portal is the end goal of Block Factory: a huge, dark ring left by the Ancients, about 210 blocks from spawn and marked on the map. You cannot build it. You wake it with the best products your factory can make and a lot of power, delivered to a Great Portal Altar.
Getting there
- Research Great Portal, the last research of the game (Epoch 5, 10 × Knowledge Scroll V). It needs Nuclear Power, Logistics 4, Hob-Goblin Construction 2 and Rune Crafting 3.
- Build a Great Portal Altar within 32 blocks of the centre of the Great Portal. An altar farther away takes nothing.
- Deliver goods and power to the altar until your team's bar is full.
The goal tracker on the HUD walks you through these three steps.
| |
| Epoch | 5 |
|---|---|
| Size | 1 × 1 |
| Energy | Electric |
| Power | 20 MW while charging
|
| Health | 250 |
| Research | Great Portal |
The altar
Recipe: 100 Concrete, 100 Steel Plate, 50 Rune Slate, 50 Processing Unit, 50 Electric Engine.
| What the altar needs | Amount |
|---|---|
| Rune Module Speed MK3 | 50 |
| Rune Module Productivity MK3 | 50 |
| Low Density Frame | 500 |
| Processing Unit | 500 |
| Uranium Fuel Cell | 200 |
| Power | 12,000 MJ (20 MW for 10 minutes) |
- Deliver by hand, with the Deliver from inventory button, by belt or by grabber, like at any other machine. Connect the altar to your grid with power poles; it charges while it has power.
- Before your team has finished the Great Portal research, the altar takes nothing and does not charge.
- The window shows your team's bar, the power charged and each item delivered so far.
- Each team has its own bar. In multiplayer several teams can race for it.
- As the best bar fills, the rune stones of the ruin light up one by one and the gap in the ring closes.
When the portal opens

When the first team fills its bar, the Great Portal awakens for everyone in the world: a cutscene plays for all players, the ground shakes and the runes blaze. The team gets the achievement Beyond the Great Portal. Every other team that fills its bar later gets the achievement too.
After that there is no further goal on the HUD, and your factory keeps running.
Ancient-Tech
The open portal keeps taking goods. For your team, everything you deliver to the altar after your bar is full pays Ancient-Tech, a third kind of research point:
| Goods | Ancient-Tech each |
|---|---|
| Rune Module Speed MK3, Productivity MK3, Efficiency MK3 | 40 |
| Uranium Fuel Cell | 6 |
| Low Density Frame | 4 |
| Processing Unit | 3 |
Curiosity works as at the research centers: each piece lowers the value of that item by 1 %, and it recovers by 1 % every 6 seconds (see Research).
Ancient-Tech pays for the endless research Ancient Mining: every level makes all your team's drills yield 10 % more. Level 1 costs 1,000 Ancient-Tech, level 2 costs 2,000, level 3 costs 3,000 and so on. Use the altar to see your points, then buy the next level with /ancient --buy=mining (see Commands).
