BlockFactory:Vehicles

Vehicles get you across the steppe quickly and carry cargo in their trunk; the later ones fight for you. There are three: the Steam Buggy, the Armored Car and the Rune Tank. All three are items: you place them in the world, drive them, and pick them up again.

Recipes

All vehicles are crafted by hand or in a Fabricator. Each upgrade uses the previous vehicle.

Vehicle Ingredients Time
Steam Buggy 8 Engine Unit, 20 Iron Plate, 5 Steel Plate 2 s
Armored Car 1 Steam Buggy, 50 Steel Plate, 10 Advanced Circuit, 1 Assault Rifle 5 s
Rune Tank 1 Armored Car, 20 Rune Slate, 10 Electric Engine, 1 Rocket Launcher 5 s

Controls

Action How
Place Hold the vehicle in your hotbar and right-click a block. It faces the way you look.
Get in and drive Use the vehicle. Steer with your normal movement keys. The camera is locked to third person while you drive.
Get out Dismount as from a mount in Hytale. The camera returns to first person.
Open the trunk Crouch and Use
Pick it up Crouch and hit it

When you pick up a vehicle, it goes into your inventory together with everything in its trunk; what does not fit drops on the ground in front of you. You cannot pick it up while someone has its trunk open. In Creative mode, placing does not use up the item and picking up gives none back.

Vehicles belong to no team: any player can drive one, open its trunk or pick it up.

Fuel

Put fuel into the trunk. While you sit in the vehicle, it uses energy every second; when the stored energy runs low, it burns the next fuel item from the trunk. When nothing is left, you are dropped out with the message "The vehicle is out of fuel". Unused energy stays in the vehicle. In Creative mode, driving costs nothing.

The Steam Buggy and the Armored Car burn the same fuels as furnaces and drills. The Rune Tank runs only on Batteries (5 MJ each).

Fuel Energy Steam Buggy Armored Car Rune Tank
Wood 2 MJ about 13 s about 7 s –
Tallow 1.5 MJ 10 s 5 s –
Coal 4 MJ about 27 s about 13 s –
Solid Fuel 12 MJ 80 s 40 s –
Battery 5 MJ – – 10 s

Vehicle weapons

The Armored Car and the Rune Tank fire on their own while you sit in them. They aim like a tower: first the nearest attack group in range, otherwise the nearest War Golem, otherwise the nearest nest. Each shot uses one ammunition item from the trunk, taken in slot order. If there is no target in range, no ammunition is used.

Ammunition Used by Damage per shot
Cartridge Armored Car 5
Steel Cartridge Armored Car 8
Uranium Cartridge Armored Car 16
Rocket Rune Tank 120

With Uranium Cartridges, the Armored Car deals up to 80 damage per second; the shots of one second all hit the same target. See Weapons and Armor for how ammunition is made.

Damage

Vehicles cannot be damaged: not by creatures, stray shots, falling or water.

Noise

A vehicle makes noise every second you sit in it, like a running machine. A long drive past a nest can draw an attack group to where you are. See Enemies.
