BlockFactory:Outlanders

Outlanders are tinkerers from beyond the portal who try out the old technology. You need them to research anything at all: they run the Outlander Test Site. They also scout from the Rangertower and watch over every Nuclear Reactor.

Calling an Outlander

The Outlander call is open at the Portal of the Ancient from the start. Outlanders only come to a factory with something varied to offer.

The variety rule: with at most 10 % per item kind, a full bar needs at least ten different kinds of items. Ten stacks of the same plate will not do. The portal window shows how much of each kind's share you have already used.

A first Outlander can be paid entirely with things from the start. At the starting price each share is 15 essence:

Outlander Test Site

The heart of research: you choose a technology, bring its Knowledge Scrolls, and the Outlanders test it until it is unlocked. It is available from the start (7 × 7, no power needed). Recipe: 1 Trapped Outlander, 60 Stone Brick, 30 Iron Plate. When a test is done, the Outlander Tinkerer cheers and fireworks go off over the site. Everything about testing is on Research.

With power, the Outlander scout on the tower spots nests and approaching groups of creatures within 160 blocks and marks them on your map. See Defense and Enemies.

Nuclear Reactor

Every Nuclear Reactor needs a Trapped Outlander in its recipe (with 100 Concrete, 80 Steel Plate, 100 Copper Plate and 100 Advanced Circuit). The Outlander stands in front of the reactor. See Nuclear Power.
