BetterBiomes:Emerald Wilds
The new biomes of Zone 1, the Emerald Wilds. Tier 1 around the start stays mostly vanilla: only the Flower Patch, Lavender Field and Orchard appear there. The large biomes start in Tier 2 and often run on into Tier 3.
The new mountain types of Zone 1 (Splinter Peaks, Firwood Slopes and Mist Peaks) are on Mountains. Biome IDs for /locate are on Zones Overview.
Flower Patch

Tier 1 · BetterBiomes_Flower_Patch
A small micro biome inside the smooth plains: a dense patch of flowers and no trees. Ground, height and weather match the plains around it, so it blends in without an edge.
Lavender Field
Tiers 1–2 · BetterBiomes_Lavender_Field
A meadow with many small clumps of lavender (about 4–8 blocks across), groups of sunflowers and pink tulips in between, and now and then a wisteria tree. Wisteria logs give the Wisteria wood set. Beekeeper's stands can stand here (see Structures).
Orchard
Tiers 1–2 · BetterBiomes_Orchard
Apple trees in loose rows. Besides apples, many trees also carry peaches, pears and cherries that you can pick and that grow back. Clumps of daffodils and red tulips grow in the grass, and there is sometimes an orchard barn. Apple logs give the Apple wood set.
Cherry Grove
Tier 2 · BetterBiomes_Cherry_Grove
An open forest of pink-blossomed cherry trees with a carpet of petals, pink orchids, pink moss, daffodils and pink tulips. Pink petals drift through the air, the water is clear and there are fireflies on sunny evenings. Deer and rabbits live here.
- Cherries hang from the trees and grow back after picking.
- Cherry blossom leaves sometimes drop a cherry sapling.
- Cherry logs give the Cherry wood set.
- Stone lanterns stand between the trees.
Old Growth Woods
Tier 2 · BetterBiomes_Old_Growth_Woods
Giant, gnarled ash trees and ancient oaks with moss, fallen logs, bluebells and trillium in the clearings. Hollow fallen giant logs lie on the forest floor. Ash logs give the Ash wood set.
Dead Forest

Tiers 2–3 · BetterBiomes_Forest_Dead
A forest of dead beech and ash trees on dry soil, without flowers. Spider webs hang under the bare branches.
Graves are scattered through the forest, up to three per chunk. Each grave is a mossy headstone with a mound and one of these:
| Grave | Share |
|---|---|
| A rose on the mound | 40 of 106 |
| Spider webs | 35 of 106 |
| Iron bars around the grave | 20 of 106 |
| Dug up, with bones and a skull | 5 of 106 |
| Restless | 6 of 106 |
When you get close to a restless grave, a Skeleton Fighter or Skeleton Scout climbs out of it. Once killed, it only comes back after 5 in-game days.
Redwood Forest
Tiers 2–3 · BetterBiomes_Forest_Redwood
In vanilla, redwoods only grow in Zone 3. This is a temperate redwood forest with Zone 1 soil, ferns, moss, trillium and a few birches in the undergrowth. In the middle of each Redwood Forest rises a mountain. On its summit (from about y 185) small rock humps hold a few blocks of a random ore. Acorns and berry bushes lie on the ground, and bee hives hang from branches.
Dried Plains
Tiers 2–3 · BetterBiomes_Plains_Dried
Smooth plains with dry soil and dry grass, no flowers, berries or wheat, and only scattered dead trees. Poppies grow here and there. Rarely you find a castle ruin.
Savanna
Tiers 2–3 · BetterBiomes_Savanna
Vanilla has savannas only in Zone 2. This one has golden grass, dry trees and the odd baobab, and unlike the Dried Plains it is full of life. Poppies grow in the grass. Termite mounds, tipis and fire pits stand on the plain (they also appear in the vanilla savannas of Zone 2).
Meadow

Tiers 2–3 · BetterBiomes_Meadow
A large flower meadow without trees: tall grass, flower carpets, roses and berry bushes. Beekeeper's stands, fairy rings of mushrooms and, rarely, a castle ruin can be found here.
Prism Meadow
Tiers 2–3 · BetterBiomes_Prism_Meadow · added after 1.4.0
A rare open meadow with natural fields of red, yellow, blue and pink flowers, groups of bushes, small calcite rocks and rubble. Now and then a giant tree with a dark trunk and deep blue and sky blue leaves stands alone on the grass. Pink sparkles hang in the air. About one in five meadow areas is a Prism Meadow. Fairy rings grow here too.
Jungle

Tier 3 · BetterBiomes_Jungle
Deep in Zone 1: large jungle trees, banyans, tree ferns and bamboo thickets over mossy ground with jungle grass, giant ferns and birds of paradise. Oranges and bananas hang in the canopy and grow back after picking. Mossy jungle temples hide a chest with better loot.
Maple Woods
Tier 3 · BetterBiomes_Maple_Woods
A dense red autumn forest of maples and red firs with red and orange leaf litter and marigolds. Leaves fall through the air. Stags and foxes live here. Giant maples and hollow fallen maple logs stand between the trees. Maple logs give the Maple wood set.
Willow Swamp
Tier 3 · BetterBiomes_Willow_Swamp
Weeping willows over ponds, pink waterlilies on the water, yellow tulips on the banks, green water and swamp fog with swamp sounds. Giant weeping willows let curtains of leaves hang down, and witch huts stand on short stilts. Willow logs give the Willow wood set.
Mystic Grove
Tier 3 · BetterBiomes_Mystic_Grove
Spiral trees and azure trees, glowing glowflowers, pink tulips, fireflies and violet water. Foxes live here, and fairy rings of mushrooms grow in the grass. Spiral logs give the Spiral wood set.
Bamboo Grove
Tier 3 · BetterBiomes_Bamboo_Grove
Dense bamboo with clearings, lotus flowers on still water and pink tulips. Stone lanterns and two-storey pagodas with red cloth roofs stand in the grove. Bamboo gives the Bamboo wood set.
Karst Peaks
Tier 3 · BetterBiomes_Karst_Peaks
A field of steep limestone cones, 30–55 blocks high and wooded on top, with misty, wet valleys and puddles in between. Frogs live in the valleys, bluebells grow on the slopes, and a mossy shrine with a chest is sometimes hidden between the cones. The cones are a good source of limestone.
