BetterBiomes:Whisperfrost Frontiers

The new biomes of Zone 3, the Whisperfrost Frontiers. At night, colored northern lights (pink, violet, blue and red) shine over every Better Biomes biome in this zone. See Wildlife and Atmosphere.

Frosty Mountains and Rime Ridges are on Mountains. Biome IDs for /locate are on Zones Overview.

Camphor Highlands

Tier 1 · BetterBiomes_Camphor_Highlands

A windswept upland with patches of heather, rocks, red tulips and scattered camphor trees. Camphor logs give the Camphor wood set.

Storm Heath

Tier 1 · BetterBiomes_Storm_Heath

A bare, windswept heath with short yellow-brown grass, heather, boulders and broken stormbark stumps. Fallen trunks, 4–7 blocks long, all lie in the same direction, because the storm always comes from the same side. Snowstorms are frequent and the wind is strong.

Autumn Taiga

Tiers 1–2 · BetterBiomes_Autumn_Taiga

Firs in orange autumn colors mixed with green firs, with leaf litter, mushrooms and fireweed in the clearings. Giant maples rise between the firs, and hollow fallen fir logs lie on the ground. Fir logs give the Fir wood set; you can also grow an Autumn Fir Sapling.

Rune Moor

Tiers 1–2 · BetterBiomes_Rune_Moor

A foggy upland bog with dark moss, reeds, heather, cotton grass, peat pools and a few crooked trees. Menhirs of blue, teal or dark runestone stand in the moor. Rarely you find a stone circle: ten menhirs in a ring, some of them broken, around an altar of ornate runestone with a glowing pink crystal block.

Pine Fields

Tiers 1–2 · BetterBiomes_Plains_Pine

Open plains with loose groups of firs instead of a closed forest, pine cones on the ground and snowdrops. Woodcutter camps with a chest stand in the fields.

Giants' Graveyard

Giant bones in the snow
Skeletons at night

Tiers 1–3 · BetterBiomes_Giants_Graveyard

A sunken hollow, about 120 blocks across and 8 blocks deeper than the land around it, where the giants came to die. Gigantic and large skeletons, ribs, vertebrae and skulls lie close together in the snow, with frozen puddles, ice pillars, dead firs and pale soul lights made of crystals. Tribute cairns stand between the bones.

Underneath lies the Bone Crypt, a cave that only forms below the graveyard: ossuary passages and halls of bone. See Caves.

Sallow Moor

Tier 2 · BetterBiomes_Sallow_Moor

A wet tundra with mud patches, reeds, cotton grass and sallow trees. Giant weeping willows let their leaves hang down to the ground, and witch huts stand on short stilts. Sallow logs give the Sallow wood set.

Hot Springs

Hot Springs

Tiers 2–3 · BetterBiomes_Hot_Springs

A thawed spot, about 70 blocks across, in the middle of the snowy plains: green grass instead of snow, hot pools, basalt rocks, bones and snowdrops. Vanilla has hot springs only in Tier 1; these appear in Tier 2 and 3.

  • Moose, stags and ducks live here, snowy owls fly around, and very rarely a polar bear shows up. The regular glacier animals spawn too, but no penguins.
  • Bathing spots are often built at the pools (also at the vanilla hot springs of Tier 1).

Pink Ice

Tiers 2–3 · BetterBiomes_Pink_Ice

A pastel ice landscape: snow with pink clay patches, pink and iridescent crystals, frostwood and crystal trees, pink geodes and violet water. Glowing crystal spires, 6–15 blocks high, lean out of the ice. Pink sparkles drift in the air, and the northern lights here are mostly pink and violet. Mining the pink crystals gives Pink Crystal Shards.

Rimebound Woods

Tiers 2–3 · BetterBiomes_Rimebound_Woods

A snowy fir forest where about every second tree is frozen in a block of clear ice up to half its height. Ice patches, ice rubble and snowdrops lie between the trees.

Frost Swamp

Tiers 2–3 · BetterBiomes_Swamp_Frost

Vanilla has swamps only in Zone 1. This one has the shape, water, mud and reeds of a swamp, but cold soil, winter grass and dead or snowy firs. Its weather and enemies are those of Zone 3. Snowdrops grow on the banks.

Ice fishing spots sit on the ponds: a ring of ice near the bank with a hole and a fishing trap in the middle, plus stools, a bucket and a lantern.

Ancient Bones in vanilla biomes

Rare giant skeletons are also scattered over all vanilla biomes of Zone 3, partly buried in the ground. The Giants' Graveyard is where they lie closest together.
