BetterBiomes:Getting Started

From MutigerAffe Wiki

This page covers installing Better Biomes and finding the new biomes in your world.

Installation

  1. Download Better Biomes from CurseForge.
  2. Download the library Utility Biome. Better Biomes does not start without it.
  3. Put both mods into the mods folder of your server or singleplayer world.
  4. Start the game. On the first start the mod creates its settings file BetterBiomes.json in its data folder. See Configuration.
Needs Version
Hytale server 0.7.x (at least 0.7.0, below 0.8.0)
Utility Biome 1.0.0

New chunks only

Better Biomes changes world generation. Everything it adds, from biomes to caves and structures, only appears in chunks that are generated after installing the mod. Land you have already explored stays as it is. Start a fresh world, or travel to areas you haven't visited yet.

Where to look

The new biomes are spread over all four zones and the oceans. A few rules of thumb:

  • The start of Zone 1 (Tier 1) stays mostly vanilla. There you only find the small Flower Patches, Lavender Fields and Orchards. The large Zone 1 biomes start in Tier 2.
  • Each biome has fixed tiers. The Zones Overview lists them all.
  • Many biomes continue across a tier border, so a forest can start in Tier 2 and run on into Tier 3.
  • Small biomes such as the Oasis, the Hot Springs or the Volcano sit inside a larger vanilla biome.
  • New caves are underground in every zone. See Caves.

Finding a biome with commands

You can find any Better Biomes biome with the vanilla locate command and the biome ID:

/locate biome BetterBiomes_Cherry_Grove --tp

Utility Biome adds a few more helpers (see its commands):

  • /ub where tells you which zone and biome you are standing in.
  • /ub next BetterBiomes_Vulcano teleports you to the next spot of that biome. Use it again to get to a different spot each time.
  • /ub cave BetterBiomes_Frostglass teleports you into the nearest cave of that type.

All biome IDs are on Zones Overview, all cave IDs on Caves.
